2014 Davis Double Century

The 45th Annual Davis Double Century is the first double on the California Triple Crown series that I’ve now completed and the second big club-supported ride I’ve ridden in thus far. (The Grizzly Peak Century from several years ago was my maiden voyage in the realm of rides over 100 miles.) Endurance riding is still a new discipline for me as I began randonneuring last year, and I’m only now tackling events on the CTC calendar. Ride-On: Tour of the Unknown Coast Century

Billed as “California’s Toughest Century”, May corralled a big group of us Ride-On folks to ride her favorite annual 100-mile route: The Tour of the Unknown Coast. It’s a spectacular course with a little bit of everything that Northern California has to offer: the towering redwood groves within the Avenue of the Giants; a 6.8-mile climb up Panther Gap Ridge; the lush rolling green hills of Mattole Valley; a long stretch of headwinds along the Pacific Ocean; the infamous climb up “The Wall” that leads to “the Endless Hills”; then a descent down Wildcat back into Ferndale.

Randonneur Ride Report: Cupertino Scamper

From now until next summer, I’m pretty much of the mindset that I won’t any riding on the weekends (with a few exceptions) unless I get RUSA credit for it — so maybe I’ll be able to earn the fabled K-Hound award if I ride my ass off this year! (After this month is tallied, I think I’ll have less than 6,000k to go…) Read More
