Randonneur Ride Report: SLO Waves to Wine 400k

This year, as I chose the brevets I needed to qualify for this year’s Paris-Brest-Paris, I mixed up my itinerary again and considered events outside of San Francisco and Davis. Fortunately, the San Luis Obispo Randonneurs, a new club led by the human dynamo Vickie Backman, was offering a full ACP series this year. Carquinez Regional Park – Part Deux

This is the final ride in our exploration of parks near Crockett and Martinez (you can see the other two journeys here and here.) TBO and I always inadvertently use the steepest access points to the ridge — so there was definitely some hike-and-bike action today — but it’s worth it to see the breathtaking views of the green hillsides, Mt. Diablo and the Carquinez Strait. Then we took an easy post-ride jaunt along the new George Miller bike path, which TBO hadn’t ridden yet (he missed its former incarnation when the pavement was painted with graffiti and cracked and worn from the weather.)

Ride-On: Mixed Terrain Ride to Pelican Inn

‘Twas a spectacular day to ride the trails in Marin; with several days’ rain making the dirt nice and tacky, it was a perfect opportunity to ride to The Pelican Inn for lunch. Bridget, Daniel, Jason, John, Neil, TBO and myself met up at Mojo (where we saw Arena!), then took Bobcat to Marincello to Coastal. We bumped into our friend Justin (and dfL Todd) at the pub, and he tagged along for the ride back via Dias Ridge and Miwok (although a few of us skipped that part and dropped down to Mill Valley on the 1.) Good times!
