I wanted to take it easy this weekend, so I chose a leisurely 63-mile permanent down in the South Bay to chip away at my daunting mileage task of riding 10,000k this year.
The randonneuring team events have not going well for me in the past; I DNF’ed both my Flèche and Dart last year. So after deciding I wasn’t quite ready to tackle DMD this month, I scrambled to find a team at the last minute.
I love riding around Santa Cruz, as most of the roads are new to me; I think 90% of today’s 63-mile ride was heretofore unexplored territory. While TBO’s more familiar with the area as he lived here for several years, much of it was new to him as well as he’s only now getting around to checking out the vicinity by bike.
A mix of old and new Ride-On folks — 15 in all — gathered in Petaluma today for a glorious 50-mile loop through beautiful farm country.
TBO, Daniel and myself took a nice jaunt down the Peninsula today with this permanent; I chose this route as I wanted to check out the new Devil’s Slide multi-use path and it didn’t disappoint — the views are stunning!
